The Oxford Guild and the Institute of Tourist Guiding
The Oxford Guild, regulated by the Institute of Tourist Guiding (ITG), is based on a rigorous training programme and continued professional development. Oxford is endowed with an exceptional quality of tour guide.
All Oxford History Tours’ ITG guides are amongst the very best the city has to offer. They have been selected for their story telling and historical expertise to offer unique experiences that bring you an informed, insightful and out-of-the-ordinary experience of Oxford.
Green Badge? Blue Badge?
You may have heard of Blue Badge and Green Badge accredited guides. Here is a link to a more detailed explanation.
Briefly Blue Badge and Green Badge guides are associates or members of the British Institute of Tourist Guiding and are bound to only give tours at sites where they have been properly trained.
While the Blue Badge training is longer than Green Badge, Green Badge concentrates more intensely on one city and in some cases can offer a deeper knowledge and familiarity with city sites.
Several Oxford History Tours guides are also members of the Oxford Guild of Tour Guides, providing further opportunities to liaise with historic sites and offer exceptional access to lesser-known corners of Oxford.
Meet Some Exceptional Guides
Enter into the world of an Oxford College
Oxford is home to broadly thirty-nine colleges, each with its own traditions and reputation.
Each college is a blend of monastic simplicity and lavish sometimes curious traditions. Each Oxford University student belongs to both a College and to the University.
Historically, Christchurch was known for educating Etonians and noblemen. Jesus College was established to serve the Welsh gentry. Academic reputations fluctuate significantly over time. Together, these colleges create a rich tapestry not only of history and learning but also flights of imagination and creativity — a real life wonderland.
Some are open to the public, offering a glimpse into the cloisters of academic life, for several others we can arrange your visit.
Exploring inside a college is an experience not to be missed, and without question hugely enhanced by the company of an accredited Blue or Green Badge Oxford guide.
