More About Lincoln College

Lincoln College’s original raison d’etre was to stem the rise of the Wycliffe Heresy and argue against praising god in the vernacular language.

Since then Lincoln was the first College to elect a Jewish fellow, Howard Florey, from the team that discovered penicillin was a professor here and John Wesley resigned his fellowship to wed in the 19th century.

Lincoln’s hall is a treasure. The Boston ivy  in its front Quad is one of the perennial joys of an Oxford guide. The early 17th century chapel still has its original stained glass.

  • "The tour was well thought out and Sophie was an engaging guide with a mine of interesting information, much of it new to me even as someone who's lived in Oxford for the past 30 years. Definitely recommended."
