Good spot for lunch or brunch….

Here are some tried and tested brunch and lunch suggestions

Linen lunch stops

Plant of lower cost options to follow but these are my first choices for something a little bit of a treat

No.1 Ship Street

This place is great value. Linen table cloths, interesting menus and bereft of pretension tucked behind St Michael’s Church.

Call ahead to make sure it’s open with a table available.

The Old Parsonage

I love this white linen cloth restaurant on St Giles. is not right in the city centre but close to the Natural History Museum and the Lamb & Flag and Bird & Babe of Inkling and Tolkien fame.

The outdoor area is sumptuous and the indoor dining room is adorned with wonderful art.

Highly recommended.

Or Brunch….

All day breakfast

An authentic ‘traditional greasy spoon is Brown’s, in the Covered Market.

It is so authentic that it does not even have a web site but you will find it and reviews on any search engine.

The Vault’s Cafe in Radcliffe Square also does fabulous breakfast in an outstanding setting. The 1320 Old Congregation House of the University Church of St Mary the Virgin in the heart of the city centre.

However it is not ‘all day’ here. At 11am breakfast is replaced with healthy delicious lunch options. There is some fabulous outdoor seating here too.

and a really snug pub

Kings Arms Oxford - Traditional British pub in city centre

The Kings Arms is a personal favourite. Their fare includes pies, fish and chips, fine local brews and homemade scotch egg which I regularly make a little pilgrimage for. The chips (French fries) are exceptionally good.

In the winter they have a snug with a real fireplace.
